Creating a distressed look. Once your final paint coat is dry you can start distressing it with either a wet rag or fine grit sandpaper. After a few rubs you will see that the paint has been removed. In short to get a naturally weathered painted surface with the wet distress method you take a damp cloth and gently rub back your recently dried chalk paint.

Another way to wet distress is by using a water spray bottle and spraying directly onto your piece. This is called wet distressing because you used water to create the distressed look to your painted furniture. Once the chalk paint has been removed it will reveal the original wood.
